Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka’s first ancient capital and one of the greatest centres of Buddhist civilisation in South Asia. The sprawling UNESCO World Heritage Site features enormous dagobas, ancient monasteries, sacred reservoirs and the revered Sri Maha Bodhi tree, believed to be the oldest historically documented tree in the world. Its peaceful atmosphere reflects centuries of spiritual heritage.
